What’s BOL all about?

We want to inspire the world to eat more plants by leading the plant based movement. So we’re on a mission to make it easy for you to eat more plants, especially when you don’t have the time to cook from scratch. Whether you’re an omnivore, vegan or just fancy trying some more exciting plant based recipes, we can guarantee that everything we make will be delicious, healthy and good for you.

Where did the name ‘BOL’ come from?

Most of our recipes have been made or served up in bowls for years so BOL is our take on the world in a bowl.

Are all BOL products vegan friendly?

Yes. The entire BOL range - from our meal replacement power shakesto our dinner boxes, soups and vegetable centrepieces are 100% plant based and certified vegan friendly.

Why is BOL a plant based brand?

Over the past few years, we’ve become increasingly aware of the responsibility we have to change the way we eat, both for the sake of our health and that of the planet. The more we’ve come to understand the negative impacts of animal agriculture, the more realised we could play a pivotal role in helping the UK eat more plants. We’ve replaced meat based proteins with plant based alternatives such as chickpeas, edamame beans and squash, whilst still creating incredibly delicious, nutritious and vibrant meals that are packed full of fresh, natural ingredients. We’ve also removed all dairy from our recipes so as to make the entire BOL range 100% plant-powered.

Our mission is to make it easy for busy people to eat more plants, especially when there’s no time to cook from scratch. Moving to a plant based diet is good for you and kinder to the planet.

Why have you removed cheese and dairy?

When we learned about the environmental impact of the meat and dairy industries, we couldn’t simply stand by and pretend we were okay with making products that contributed to that impact. Put simply, we have a responsibility to change the way we eat. By removing dairy from our range, we realised we would save over 7 million litres of water, 194 tonnes of C02 emissions and 91 thousand square meters of farmland. What’s more, we discovered we could get all the nutrition we need from plants whilst also doing good to the planet.

Our 100% plant based recipes have been developed to appeal to meat eaters, vegans and everyone in between. If you'd like to find out more about why we made this decision, take a look at this blog post by our founder, Paul.

Is BOL packaging recyclable?

All BOL pots are recyclable, although we do encourage you to upcycle your empty packaging and give it a new life. You can even post your upcycling effort photo with #DontWasteCreate hashtag and tag @BOLfoods so we can see what creative genius you’ve used your pot for.

Our Dinner Boxes are made almost entirely from bagasse(a by-product of sugar cane), meaning they're 95% plastic free and can be recycled with paper or industrially composted.

Our Veg Pots are dishwasher safe but Salad Jars aren’t so please wash them the old school way.

Additionally, all of our products and packaging are 100% vegan.

Are your products freezaBOL?

Unfortunately, most our products do not freeze well. Due to the fresh, wholesome and top quality ingredients used in all our recipes, we don’t recommend freezing any of the ranges. Freezing and defrosting leads to quality and texture changes which in our opinion, impacts the eating experience. We’re committed to 100% quality – nothing less will do.

Our soup however, is perfectly okay and safe to freeze and defrost. We recommend you freeze your soup on the day of purchase and consume within a month. (Please ensure you thoroughly defrost your soup before heating it up). We then recommend following the cooking instructions printed on the packaging for heating. (Heat once only).

What is a Power Shake?

Our meal replacement Power Shakes are a nutritionally complete solution developed for busy people who want taste and nutrition on the go.

Each Power Shake is made with real food and is entirely plant powered and made from vegetables, fruit and whole foods. No added sugars or preservatives whatsoever. They provide you with a balanced macronutrient split of carbohydrates, protein, fats, fibre and all 26 essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs to thrive.

The pea protein powder we use means our recipes can provide up to 20g of protein. Designed to grab on the go, whether you’ve missed breakfast, don’t have time for lunch or just want something to tide you over until dinner, with six different recipes to choose from, our Power Shakes are a delicious, healthy and filling solution.

When should I use a Power Shake?

The beauty of our Power Shakes is they’re designed to fit in with your lifestyle. As well as being bottled so you can just grab and go, we’ve also created recipes for different times of the day.

Try our Coffee & Banana Breakfast Shake which has been specifically developed to give you everything you need to start your day the right way and is also perfect as a post-workout refuel. Our Chocolate, Orange and Hazelnut recipe is an indulgent yet healthy meal replacement for those with a sweeter tooth. Or try our Carrot, Ginger and Tumeric lunch shake, a deliciously filling and perfect midday boost.

All our recipes can be enjoyed whenever you’re in need of something delicious and healthy but don’t have time for a knife, fork or spoon. (We do recommend the full 450g bottle as one serving to ensure you get all the goodness inside. However, our Power Shakes can be sipped throughout the day or consumed in two halves if that’s better for you.)

Are Power Shakes meal replacements?

Yes. Our Power Shakes are a nutritionally complete meal replacements, packed with all the nutritious benefits that you would get from eating your normal lunch/breakfast. They are a meal solution developed for busy people who want taste and nutrition on the go.

Our Shakes are all made fresh with vegetables, fruit & whole foods and provide a balanced macronutrient split of carbs, protein, fats & fibre, as well as all 26 essential vitamins & minerals and up to 2 of your 5 a day.

We believe our Power Shakes are a great way to ensure you are not compromising on nutrition when you are in a hurry and we encourage you to consume alongside a balanced and varied diet.

Why do you use glass packaging for Power Shakes?

Our glass bottles not only look great but they also keep our product looking and tasting fresher for longer and are 100% recyclable. We wanted to continue on our responsible journey and ensure that our newest piece of innovation aligned with our promise to always improve and commit to protecting the planet. We chose to use glass because of its recyclability and closed loop chain. Currently in the UK, the glass industry has the ability and capacity to recycle millions of tonnes of glass every year. While our beautiful glass bottles are 100% recyclable, they can also be used as a handy new water bottle, flower vase or used to store homemade drinks in.

Can I reuse Power Shakes' glass bottles?

Yes please. We always encourage upcycling. Our glass bottles are dishwasher safe so once you’re done, you can just pop them in with your next load. We’d love to see you give your BOL bottle another life so please tag us with your most creative BOL bottle upcycling ideas using the hashtag #dontwastecreate

How do I store my Power Shakes?

Our Power Shakes should be kept refrigerated wherever possible as they taste best chilled. If you need to take them out with you, we recommend you enjoy them within 3-4 hours.

If left unopened, you can store your shakes in your fridge up until the use by date.

Our Power Shakes are designed to have a shelf life of at least 10 days. However, please check the use by date when you receive your box or buy them in store.

Once opened, please store in the fridge and consume within 24 hours.

Do BOL products contain allergens?

Some of our products do contain allergens. You will be able to find more information on recipe pages and our product labels. We have recently launched a new peanut and chocolate power shake but please be aware this means our food may contain or come into contact with peanuts. While we take several steps to minimize risk and safely handle the foods that contain potential allergens, please be advised that cross contamination may occur.

Where’s my favourite product gone? 

Long-time lover of a particular BOL? Whether you’re a sucker for our Sri Lankan cauliflower Sambar or our Japanese Rainbow Slaw Salad Jar… you might be struggling to find them on shelf. That’s because we’ve recently bid farewell to these BOL’s for future plant-power. Is BOL suitable for Vegans?

All our recipes are suitable for vegans. Everything we make is Vegan Certified by the Vegetarian Society and have the Vegan logo clearly marked on pack.

Do you have any allergen-free products?

We avoid using allergen ingredients wherever possible and always ensure that the latest information is on our recipe pages and our product labels. Please check these out for more info.

Do you use any additives, preservatives or flavourings?

We don’t add any artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings or anything nasty in our recipes. Not now, not ever. We only use what Mother Nature has created, so you’ll be able to recognise everything on our ingredients lists as something that comes from nature.

Are BOL products healthy?

We develop all BOL recipes in collaboration with acclaimed nutritionist Ian Marber (a.k.a. The Food Doctor) to make sure they are packed full of healthy goodness. Check out our individual recipes for a full nutritional overview.

How much protein is in a Power Shake?

All of our delicious Power Shakes contain a source of protein with a minimum of 10g of protein per 450g serving. If you’re looking for a higher protein boost, we recommend our Chocolate, Orange & Toasted Hazelnut Shake as this nutty recipe contains 19g of plant powered protein, perfect for post-workout refuel or to tide you over until dinner time.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for something a little more savoury, our Carrot, Turmeric and Ginger Shake is big on taste and high in protein.

Are Power Shakes gluten free?

Some of our Power Shakes contain gluten free oats. Whilst the rest of our ingredients should not contain any gluten, we can’t promise that there is no gluten present where they are grown, harvested, prepped or processed before reaching our factory.

Do Power Shakes contain nuts?

Some of our Power Shakes contain nuts. Wherever we use nuts in our recipes, this is clearly labelled on pack. You can find the full list of ingredients on our products page.

What protein do you use in Power Shakes?

We use a natural pea protein in all of our Power Shakes.

It’s a great source of easily digestible protein that contains all 9 essential amino acids that the body needs.

Every protein source has its pros and cons but we’ve chosen pea protein as it is plant based and contains all 9 essential amino acids which your body cannot synthesise itself and therefore are important to have in your diet. Pea protein is also naturally higher in iron than whey protein and compared to soy, uses much less water in its manufacture. So it’s better for the environment too.

Where do all 26 vitamins & minerals come from in the Power Shakes?

Our Power Shakes are made from real food, using vegetables, fruit and wholefoods which contain naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. On top of this, we have added a vitamin complex, made by nutritional experts, to increase the micronutrient levels in each Power Shake.

For example to obtain Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), corn is broken down and the vitamin extracted.

Can children enjoy your Power Shakes?

Yes. Our Power Shakes are safe for children who are aged 4 years+ to enjoy in moderation as part of a balanced, varied diet. They are not suitable for babies or infants below the age of 4 or during weaning age as there are different nutritional requirements for this age group.

Do you add sugar to your Power Shakes?

No. The sugar content in our Power Shakes comes from the naturally occurring sugars in the fruit and vegetables we pack into them.

Across the range, the sugar content in is low: there is just 26.7g in our Chocolate, Orange & Toasted Hazelnut Lunch Shake (the equivalent of the sugar content of one banana and another portion of fruit).

We are firm believers of getting as much whole fruit and vegetables as you can into your diet to ensure you reach the recommended 5-a-day target. Two thirds of the country are currently not hitting this target, and so our Power Shakes make for a very convenient way of getting up to 2 of your 5 a day into one meal.


How do I sign in to my account?

BOL accounts are available for both subscribers and customers who have placed one time orders.

If you've already purchased our Power Shakes online before, then you already have an account.

Subscribers can manage their accounts and single order customers can view past orders and shipments.

To access your account, simply click on the “Sign in” icon next to the shopping bag in the top right of your screen and enter your email and password.

If you’ve forgotten your login information, just click “Forgot your password?” and follow the instructions.

How do I cancel my order?

As our Power Shakes are fresh, we work quickly to pick and pack your items.

Unfortunately, this means your order cannot be amended or cancelled once it is being prepared.

If you have a BOL subscription, you can see an upcoming order by signing in to your account. Please note that any changes to an upcoming order need to be made before 11am, 2 days before your delivery day.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your running subsription by logging in to your account, clicking on 'my account', going to the 'subscriptions' field and clicking the 'cancel' button on the right hand side of your subscription.

Please note that this will not cancel orders that have been processed.

Can I have multiple recipes within the same box?

Yes, you can customise your box with your favourite recipes by choosing the Build a Box option. This allows you to customise your box by adding in the recipes you'd like to receive. You can add as many or as little of each recipe, as long as you select a total of 6 bottles.

Can I have multiple subscriptions?

Yes, you can subscribe to multiple boxes at the same time. If you place a subscription with multiple boxes, these will be delivered on the same day as part of your order. If you have a running subscription, and subscribe to a different box independently of your original subscription, your new subscription will be added to your running subscription schedule. This means that you will receive your new box at the same time as your next scheduled delivery.

Deliveries & Returns

How do I change my shipping address?

- One-time orders: You can edit your shipping address by going to your account settings. If the order is not editable, please email Please note that once the order is being processed, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to re-route it.

- Subscription orders: You can edit your shipping address by going to your account settings.As long as your order is not already being processed, an address change should be reflected in your next shipment. If the order is being processed, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to re-route it.

Please contact us directly at to let us know if you need an order rerouted and we will try our best to accommodate this.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we only ship within UK Mainland.

Unfortunately, we cannot deliver to the following places:

Northern Ireland, Jersey, the Hebrides, Orkney, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Aberdeen, Northern Highlands, Republic of Ireland, Argyll, Guernsey, Shetland Islands and Isle of Scilly, and the rest of the world.

How much is delivery?

As of the 12th of January 2021, we are offering free delivery on subscriptions and one-off orders of 2 boxes or more (excluding subscription items).

If you purchase 1 x one-off box, the delivery fee is £2.50.

When will my Power Shakes arrive?

Because our Power Shakes are fresh, we only offer delivery between Tuesday and Friday. If you have placed an order before 10am, you order will arrive the very next day. If you place an order after 10am, your order might arrive the day after next. Unfortunately, we do not deliver on weekends, Mondays, Bank holidays or the day following a Bank Holiday.

Can I choose my delivery day?

It is not currently possible to specify an exact delivery day and time. However, our courier DPD offers a delivery service whereby they inform customers of a one-hour delivery window notified by SMS and/or email.You can also update delivery instructions on the day: if you are not going to be in, by asking to leave with a neighbour or get your box delivered to a safe place. Please bear in mind your products are chilled and need to be put in a fridge within 24 hours of dispatch.

My order hasn't arrived.

We work closely with our delivery partners to ensure every order is delivered to you on time. If your Power Shakes have not been delivered to your designated address by 8pm on the delivery day you selected, please let us know by contacting us at

My order arrived but...

Why do you deliver a box within a box?

The reason for adding a box within the delivery box is to insulate the packaging and keep our Power Shakes at the right temperature during the delivery process.

Our packaging is 100% recyclable and we encourage our customers to make the effort to recycle our packaging.

How do I start a subscription?

You can choose to subscribe when placing your first order with us. Just make sure the 'Subscribe’ button is turned on when you're adding products to your shopping cart.

Once you've chosen the recipes for your first delivery, we'll ask how often you want to receive a delivery going forward.

Whether weekly, fortnightly or monthly, it’s completely up to you.

Then once you've confirmed your order, you'll be able to sign into your account and manage your subscription from there.

What are the benefits of subscribing?

Having a subscription allows you to save 10% on your regular deliveries and free delivery.

You can also set up your subscription to fit in with your lifestyle, whether that’s weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
